Oil cleansers

If I picture oil and body, I think relaxing soothing massage, and something else. Ahem!

But oil on face? Err….. ummm…..

That was my first reaction when the sales assistant raved about it. Oil cleansers are IT now, she said. I thought she’s gone mad. And it’s even crazier if I bought it. I have combination skin and putting oil on my face is like putting fertilizer for my face to grow zits!!

Or so I thought… And I must have been crazy listening to a young girl driven by sales commission. But then again, I’m glad I was a little nuts.

Oil is supposed to be the only ingredient that can completely clean out the pores. It preps the skin so that it will be less prone to pimples and will heal faster. Oil cleansers are perfect for all skin types, that is including and especially for oily skins! It will get rid of excess sebum and helps balance the skin. Cool, eh?

The Bobbi Brown cleansing oil

The Bobbi Brown cleansing oil was my first. It smells very soothing.

Pump 2 to 3 times onto your hand and massage onto dry face for a minute. This will effectively take off all traces of makeup, including waterproof ones. Then, wet your hands and massage your face. The water on your hands will emulsify the oil. You will see the oil turn into milk. Lastly, wash your face with lukewarm water. I use a foam cleanser after.

Skin does feel good and after a good 2 months of daily use, no, there are no breakouts.

Shu Uemura high performance Balancing cleansing oil Fresh
(for combination to oily skin)

I recently bought the Shu Uemura oil cleanser. This is supposed to be the mother of all oil cleansers. Shu Uemura is, after all the pioneer in cleansing oils. It also claims to be noncomedogenic, which is very important to me. The oil feels richer and denser on my hands. I only need 2 pumps to cover my entire face. There is a fresh powdery scent to it.

I need to emulsify more than twice to get rid of the oily feeling but the end result, PERFECT! My skin never felt smoother or softer. The best part is, I don’t need to double cleanse or use a toner after.

Which one do I like more?

Personally, I like Shu Uemura better because of the texture and the scent. The end result I think is the same, but Shu Uemura does make my skin feel cleaner.

If you use oil cleansers, which one are you using? Is there something you can recommend to me?
