Lancôme Hypnôse Precious Cells Mascara: Does it work on fine lashes?

Mascara is something I wear day in day out. Even when I don’t have any eyeshadow or eyeliner on, I make sure I apply some mascara on my lashes. It is no mystery that I have tried mascaras from lower to higher ends and at times, I find gems in just drugstore mascaras. When I ask around, many tell me that their favourite mascara is from Lancôme. So, I got myself this mascara that promises to volumise and nourish.

Here is what the brand has to say about its Lancôme Hypnôse Precious Cells Mascara:

The 1st lash care mascara by Lancôme enriched with precious plant cell extract. A volumising & caring formula that helps regenerate lash condition. Lashes feel stronger, look denser & fuller, as though multiplied.

Lancôme Hypnôse Precious Cells is enriched with a precious plant cell extract from apples. Hypnôse Precious Cells has a Helicoidal brush to give instant root-to-tip coverage.

  1.         Place the Helicoidal brush on the lash fringe.
  2.         Let the flat side of the brush glide over the lashes from root to tip in a zigzag movement.
  3.         After 5 seconds, reapply to boost the volume resultd
  4.         Ophthalmologist tested
  5.         Fragrance free
  6.         Suitable for contact lens wearers

Below is the photo of the mentioned Helicoidal brush. It is pinched and flat as you can see in the 2 different views – top and side:

The formula, I find is a bit too wet for my liking, and while it promises to volumise, I don’t really see much difference. Yes, my lashes are darker but that’s about it. I expect more from a volumising mascara. Since a picture says a thousand words, here’s a before after comparison for you. Bare eyes, bare lashes (curled), without any eye makeup or liner so that you can really tell the difference. I don’t understand how some have full makeup on and thick liners and expect us to tell the difference. I applied 2 coats of Lancôme Hypnôse Precious Cells Mascara and the after effect is on the right photo. I find that if I applied another coat, my lashes will look clumpy and spidery.

Because of the wet formula, and maybe my fine lashes, I find that the mascara nearly always transfers on my lids which I find annoying. Picture below is proof. I put extra care in applying it properly and I still managed to get it on my lids. Not cool. Trust me, I know how to apply my mascara. You will also notice that there is not much curl to my lashes. Well, there was, when it was freshly curled but once the mascara is on, everything is weighed down.

There is also lash care ingredients in this mascara but I’m sorry, I really can’t tell the difference after using it for more than 2 months. Furthermore, I don’t use this mascara on a daily basis so I’m sure whatever effect it has is minimal on me. However, I have been using lash growth serum nightly for the past 2 months and it’s been great. My lash ‘bald spots’ are gone and my lashes are much longer than before… but that’s another topic.

I purchased this mascara for RM95 a tube and it is available at all Lancôme counters nationwide. I would say I could have put the RM95 to better use, because for my fine lashes, it doesn’t deliver to my expectations. I still prefer my Dior New Look mascara and my Estee Lauder Double Wear mascara. Maybelline works great on me too.

Are you a fan of Lancôme mascaras? Perhaps it works much better on you? Or do you share my views?

xoxo Lily

I’ve always wanted to try Lancome’s mascaras, really. However, the price put me off and I end up sampling MORE drugstore offerings >.<" Looks like this is another miss?

Maybe I’ve become more picky, but I wouldn’t be buying this again, for sure. I will try the L’Oreal one next – their drugstore version of mascara + lashcare. Wonder if it works better than the pricier version. They’re from the same company after all.

I’m currently on the hunt for a new tube of mascara. I was considering this because I’ve read nice reviews. Maybe I should try it on counters first.

Sad it didn’t work for you :(

I know! RM95 isn’t cheap for a tube of mascara. I do expect it to work better than the RM50 version. I have read good things online too, but I find that the bloggers have thick lashes to start off with. Maybe not so good for my fine Asian lashes =(

Hi, Lancome L’Extreme was one of the first mascaras i’ve used & i remembered liking it a lot. I did not repurchase it bcoz i wanted to try other brands…hehe…=P

I also like Clinique’s Lash Power Volumizing mascara but dat one is good for separating & defining the lashes, not when u want a va-va-voom effect~

Lancome Oscillation mascara is just a hype to me. Got tired of the vibrating effect after a while. I prefer wiggling the wand. =D

And lately, I just bought the Chanel Sublime mascara coz i saw it on the Chanel website & i liked the mascara bristles design, i felt that it would work on my lashes. So I looked around & it got quite good reviews. Used it on my Europe trip a few weeks back & it gave my lashes a beautiful effect, it made my lashes more prominent & best of all, it gives me a good curl without a lash curler (as i didn’t want to pack along so many things when i travel)

Hi Phoenix, I’ve read and heard many good things about Chanel’s mascaras… I think I have to try it soon =) There are new mascaras launched so frequently that it’s hard to keep up. Your brief review on the Chanel Sublime mascara really makes me want to try it tho! Thanks for the heads up :-)

Hi Lily, you are most welcome. =)

If you do really buy the Chanel mascara or any other mascara whatsoever, i will LOVE to read a review from u…mascaras are one of my fave makeup items…I was deciding between Dior New Look & Chanel Sublime but I couldn’t find enuff reviews on the former, so i went with Chanel coz i LOVE the overall design & packaging…=P

Ah, New Look mascara is one of my faves. I wrote a short review of it, hidden in my Dior New Look post (Royal Kaki FOTD). Whenever I am entitled for a gift with purchase, I ask for the sample size mascara. LOL!

i have used lancome mascaras before, but they didnt wow me at that price. i prefer dior new look and some of the maybellines too :D

    • Lily

I understand completely. Yay for Dior New Look and Maybelline!!

Oops. I’ve never tried a Lancome mascara, but anything that doesn’t hold curls is dead in my book! You’re right about it not making too much of a difference too… It’s such a pity :(

    • Lily

Pity isn’t it? This is an example of money UN-wisely spent. Haha! I still used it until it was getting too dry… I mean, I’m not gonna chuck it out just because it didn’t work. It was EXPENSIVE!

      • http://mostlysunnybunny.wordpress.com/ Sunny @ Mostly Sunny

But you’d never know if you didn’t get it, so it’s really not your fault!

        • Lily

Nah, not blaming myself. Sometimes I wish they sell mascaras half the size for half the price. After all, we’re only supposed to use it for 3 months only…
