Lengthen your lashes with L’Oreal Paris Double Extension Mascara

After a failed attempt, or rather, a disappointing experience with an expensive mascara,  I decided to go back to trying cheaper ones. One of my experiments was L’Oreal Paris Double Extension Mascara. The main reason I picked this up was because of the lash renewal serum that is infused in the mascara. Also, it would be great if it could really double the length of my lashes ;-) Did it work? Read on…

The tube itself is quite long. There are 2 different formula: 1. Serum Reactivant + Booster Cils (the gold side) and 2. Ultra lengthening + renewed look mascara (the blue side). Basically, you apply number 1 before you apply another coat with number 2. The wand / brush itself is nothing special, not too big, not small either, but someone with really sparse or short lashes might have trouble with the wands. Picture below shows you the 2 different wands, the white being number 1 (booster cils) and the black being number 2.

This mascara has a lot of fibres which work to extend the length of your natural lashes. The comparison photo below says it all. I find that even though it is light enough to hold curls, there tends to be clumps at the tip of my lashes, and I have to clear it out with a lash brush. I actually took the photo below after a long day. So, in real life, what you see on the right is how it looks after 12 hours. I washed off the mascara, and took another photo to show you my bare lashes.

Oh, the most convenient thing about this mascara is in the removal process. No remover is needed, no scrubbing or rubbing. You only need water. Once the mascara is wet, the fibres will melt off on its own, leaving physical residues that look like little worms. In fact, I took a photo to show you. Be prepared to be grossed out!

I have to say though, I suspect this mascara irritates my eyes. I can’t be sure, because air pollution is at its worst with worsening haze conditions. If it really is this mascara, it might be due to the fibres. In summary, I’m really happy with how it lengthens and separates my lashes but I have yet to determine the itch factor. I don’t know if the serum works, but I might have noticed my lashes don’t fall off so easily. However, I have to be very careful not to cry with this mascara on, or I’m positive I would look really gross. It’s true because I’ve tested it ;-)

This mascara is widely available and I bought mine at Watsons for RM54.90. I can’t remember how much it was, but I think it was around the RM40 to RM50 mark. Compared to its more expensive sister at twice the price, I would recommend this instead Because it’s Worth it.

Have you tried this mascara before? What’s your favourite drugstore brand mascara?

I’ve never used L’Oreal mascaras before, seriously. However, this looks very, very good on you! Am currently using the Benefit one you gave me and the Maybelline Falsies (sometimes I use both!).

Eh… you cried while testing if the mascara smudges? What happened? Are you ok now?

I can cry just watching a touching movie. LOL!
You should try this one. For drugstore brands, I usually have better luck with Maybelline, but this one does great in lengthening my lashes. It doesn’t do much for volumising, but it doesn’t claim to. It would be perfect if it volumises too tho. Haha… so greedy. When you’re done with your current mascaras, you should give this a try and let me know what you think :-)

Ah Maybelline, heh heh, is le pioneer of mascaras, so, they know what they’re doing. Heh heh. Whew, good to know that you’re fine. Yes yes, I do need to finish my mascaras! ^.^ (OMG I still have two from months and months ago! Should have thrown them out by now but… they still work!)

I throw out my mascaras latest by the 4th month. I suppose there’s no harm if they still work well and your eyes are not irritated. Once my eyes start itching from an old mascara, I bin it. Also, some mascaras dry out quicker than the rest ;-)

Ha ha! I’m not generally a squeamish person, but those worms are kinda yucky. You even warned me!

      Haha! My work is done.

I remember trying something similar years ago, but couldn’t really remember anything about it now! My favorite drugstore mascara has to be the Maybelline fatty tubes! I do get irritation from CERTAIN mascaras as well, but I’m not sure if it’s the fiber or something else.

    • Lily

Yes, it’s Maybelline for me too! I’ve tried so many of its mascaras and I love its Magnum line. I bought the fake lashes one, but have yet to try it. I have tried others with fibres in it too, and some irritate me, some don’t, so I’m not too sure. For L’Oreal, I’ve tried other versions and they were fine. So I’m still thinking it might be due to haze… Every time our neighbouring country lights the fire, we get very bad air pollution.
