NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base: Buy It. End Of Review.

Do eye shadows crease on your eye lids? Do you find it difficult to make your eye shadows last? Do you use primers before your eye shadow application? I admit I’m sometimes lazy when it comes to applying eye primers. I’ve only used 3 eye primers before. There’s a Benefit one which was a pain to pump, and it turned bad in less than a year. So bleh. Then, there’s the Urban Decay Primer Potion which everybody swears by. I like the original version and I think the original one performs best. And then, there’s this: NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base. I never knew what the fuss was about until I tried it.

The NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base comes in a slim tube not unlike a lip gloss. It even has a doe foot applicator! This eye primer is white but it applies transparent. I like to dab it on my lids, and there is no drying time. I can apply eye shadow almost immediately and there wouldn’t be any problem with blending. I notice the colours are more vibrant, and they STAY. I have double eye lids, and my lids fold at the inner corner. So, most eye shadows will crease there after a few hours. However, when I use this primer, there is no creasing. I thought I was dreaming. This couldn’t be. This can’t be!! I tried again with different types of eye shadows, and I KID YOU NOT. They stay on, gorgeous and fresh as ever, for at least 8 hours.

For me, this is just awesomeness in a tube!

I used to skip eye primers because I couldn’t be bothered with extending the eye shadow life for just an hour or two, but with this, I get fresh looking eye makeup even by the end of a work day. My lids feel really smooth and silky after applying this primer, and I think it must be the silicones. If you’re allergic to this ingredient, then you have to unfortunately avoid this, but if you’re cool with it, this is great for oily lids.

NARS will be in Malaysia this year end, so you can check it out when it opens at Pavillion KL. I got mine online and I am really happy with it. This one is definitely a keeper, and if you haven’t tried it, you really should :-)

I really really REALLY need to get this! Just trying to work my way through a few others first. It has the perfect amount of wet/dry combination. I liked the original UDPP too but their packaging was always a problem.

Yes, you really really REALLY REALLY NEED TO GET THIS. Doooo EEEEETTT!!

Hey Lily, a good primer really makes all the difference! On me, UDPP and this one don’t perform so differently. Since I prefer UD’s new squeeze tube packaging, I will go back to it after I use my tube of NARS up!

It’s great that you have 2 choices! I wish more work for me but I guess I’ll stick to this for a while.

I like this one too!! I think it’s the best one out there!

      Glad you agree Tracy!

I want to buy it once they open in Pavilion, KL!

      Excellent choice :-)

I cannot live without this one! I have finished 1 tube and luckily the replacement is coming through mail soon. :D

I find that if I put it on top of concealer, it has this funny texture (like it doesn’t want to sit happily on top of concealer) or colour. If I try to rub it, it gets worse. Do you have this problem? Or it could be that the primer is getting old.

Anyway, a tube lasted me about a year and 4 months. I used almost everyday (5 days a week). That’s really worth the investment. :)

    • http://www.chloeash.com Lily

Hmm, I didn’t experience that, but I pat it on like I would an eye cream instead of rubbing it in. Maybe that’s why?

I just might try this one. TF & UD made my lids look crinkly and were a little irritating. Given Ting’s comment, can it be applied over concealer? I have mild redness that I need to hide and this one is transparent.

Hi Helene, I’ve used it on top and underneath a concealer before, and while they both go on smoothly, I find the effects are better when you wear this underneath the concealer. Lasts much longer :-)

Me too have irritation problem with UP product (though it is amazing on all the other fronts), so I hope Nars will solve my problems and won’t dry my lids

I hope it’ll work for you too because it’s pretty amazing :-)

I agree – this is my favorite, too! Gotta get another tube!

Woots! This is my favourite at the moment too :-)

I used this one yesterday and my make-up held all evening through – from dinner to the party to the slightly tipsy walk home. Will definitely get a full size! I now have a sample that came with an eye kit.

This is definitely the best I’ve tried! I’m glad I picked it up :-)

YASSS! I agree whole-heartedly! NARS Smudge Proof FTW! I LOVE everything about it and use it every day. My eyeshadow looks the same at 8 AM as it does at 8 PM. I love the doe foot applicator, and the fact that it’s clear. I used to be a big UDPP devotee, but that was before I tried the NARS Smudge Proof and before UD changed from a doe foot to a squeeze tube, which I am not a fan of at all. I do find the NARS and UD perform similarly well, but for me, the packaging of the NARS coupled with the white-to-clear color makes it a total must-have! I keep wondering how I ever did eye makeup without primer for all of those years!?

    • http://www.chloeash.com Lily

A fan! Yay! I think this eye primer is overwhelmingly underrated. I know I’m late to find out but hey, better late than never :-P

  • Syaza

Ohh, I’m interested to try out this product! So happy that NARS will be available in Malaysia soon. How much do you think it will cost?

    • http://www.chloeash.com Lily

Hi Syaza. You gotta try this when NARS hits Malaysia. No idea about the pricing though.
