My NARS Blushes: Deep Throat, Douceur, Madly, Orgasm

If only the packaging didn’t melt… I would definitely get MOAR of these blushes. Why NARS do you have such crappy packaging? The rubber melts yo! Yes, I thought I’d start with this rant before I show you the blushes. I do like the blushes very much, and Deep Throat is my favourite of the lot. But UGH, the packaging really makes me mad, especially when I have to de-pot the blushes later on.

NARS blush

Do you notice the packaging starting to disintegrate? Give it more time and it’ll turn into sticky goo. My Laguna died and depotted, and Orgasm is starting to feel sticky. This blush is about 3 years old. The others are not 2 yet, so I’m giving them another year before they start to die. Anyway, enough of that. Let me show you the blushes. I bought Orgasm at Mecca when I was in Australia, and I ordered the rest from kissandmakeupny.com. I’m never going to buy makeup in Australia anymore though. So darn expensive!

NARS blushes

Douceur is a warm plummy rose which is dark enough to contour while Madly is a light bronzey peach that looks great on warmer skin tones. Orgasm was my first blush because I was sucked into the hype back then, and truthfully, this one transforms on my skin. If I wear pink lipstick, Orgasm looks more pink. If I wear coral lipstick, Orgasm will change accordingly. It’s like a chameleon, this one. Deep Throat is the most flattering pink blush I ever own. I think this suits both warmer and cooler skin tones, and it gives the face a lift with just a swipe on the cheeks.

I really wanted to expand the NARS blush family, but I’m not going to do that unless I’m prepared to de-pot everything. I love the look of that bright pink Angelika and also that bright orange of Exhibit A… I’m still holding back. Have any of you experienced this packaging meltdown, and do you know how to prevent it? I keep my makeup in a cool dry place, so I don’t think the weather has much to do with it. Furthermore, my room is cool to start off with as it is air conditioned. Any feedback is much appreciated!

Do you own any NARS blush? Which is your favourite?

xoxo Lily

While awaiting for NARS to open its stores here in msia, I know deep down I wont be getting much of its products compared to YSL or GA. NARS does have alot beautiful and colourful items but the packaging is so boring. I could always opt for Laura Mercier and many other brands with more interesting packaging that wouls make me a much happier woman when I take their makeup out from my bag. Talking about style and personality!!! Hahahaha

I know what you mean, especially if the quality is comparable. In fact, I love GA much more than NARS. These are the only few things I have from the brand, actually. I was at NARS Singapore, and didn’t even get anything then. I am curious about their eye shadow duos but the packaging is preventing me from getting anything else >_<

I’ve read of someone rubbing isopropanol on the cases to remove the soft touch finish. It takes away the matte look to the compact. You could do a test patch on the back to see if you like the look.

    • BooBooNinja

Gee. I sound robotic in any comment I compare on my phone.

      • BooBooNinja

Annnnnnddd I sound like a moron with autocorrect.

        • http://www.chloeash.com Lily

LOL LOL! Happens to everyone else so no worries :-D

      • http://www.chloeash.com Lily

        No you don’t…

    • http://www.chloeash.com Lily

I’ll have to look for isopropanol then. If all else fails, I’ll just de-pot!

      • BooBooNinja

        I hope it works!

        • http://www.chloeash.com Lily

          I hope so too :-)

all my NARS compacts are fairly new but one of the eyeshadows started to feel a little sticky. i think we might have discussed it on twitter before (sorry if i’m wrong..), dusting silica base powder over kinda works for me. i saved a Chanel hair mist bottle by doing this but this is a frosted bottle so it doesn’t show any powder residue. NARS packaging is a different story since it’s black! plus you have to repeat it over time.
i own Oasis and i love it. however, i’m always a little hesitant to get more. i find classic NARS colors from olden days are much better quality than the recently introduced ones or the palettes for some reason.

    • http://www.chloeash.com Lily

Yes, you mentioned the silica base powder, but it didn’t work :-( I’m beginning to lose hope. I think I’ll get an empty palette and start de-potting or something. Haha!

I love Nars blushes and their eyeshadows! My fav Nars blushes are Sin and Torrid and my fav Nars eyeshadow has to be Lhasa. Some are coming to 2 years I think. I probably should check on their condition now and then as I don’t use them often. I keep them in the boxes they come in (something I don’t do for any other brands… It’s such a hassle!) in the hope that that will slow down the disintegration of the rubberized packaging. *fingers crossed* I really don’t know what I’ll do when that dreaded day arrives!

    • http://www.chloeash.com Lily

If they do disintegrate, just de-pot them. That’s what I did to my Laguna bronzer. I prefer NOT to de-pot these blushes and that’s why I’m not happy about it.

Hi Lily, …on the lighter side, I was laughing out loud when you say, “Deep Throat is my favorite of the lot”. How sometimes names can misrepresent. :D

    • http://www.chloeash.com Lily

Yeah, like imagine if I said something like Orgasm gives me the most satisfaction :-P

  • http://www.pinklavenders.com Rainy Days & Lattes

I love Nars blushes!!! :) I own Orgasm and Deep Throat. I use them on special occasions since they’re shimmery :p

    • http://www.chloeash.com Lily

I’m glad you love them too! I use them whenever I feel like it. Hahaha!

  • http://www.beautyreflectionsblog.com Tracy@Beauty Reflections

They MELT????? YO it’s hot where you’re at, isn’t it? Hahaha! Mine are fine. Maybe they’re only meant for those of us that live close to the Arctic Circle? :P

    • http://www.chloeash.com Lily

LOL yeah, I might have to store them in the fridge? Hahahaha!

  • http://glittersmitter5.blogspot.com/ Nida Moughal

I have yet not tried NARS blushes just pure radiant tinted moisturizer, but after reading your post I wonder if i get these blushes I am sure they won’t last in the climate of Karachi which is very hot and humid all the time.

    • http://www.chloeash.com Lily

They’re OK for the first 2 years… but once they hit the 3rd year, they start to feel sticky, and then start to melt. Disgusting!

  • http://mostlysunnyblog.com/ Sunny

Hmm could this have something to do with the climate (and maybe how often you use them)? I have some NARS compacts and they’re all still alive and kickin’!

I keep wanting to try a NARS blush, but every time I get to swatch them, I just can’t seem to fall in love with any! I wanted to get a blush palette this time I was in Taipei so I could sample more shades in one go, but naturally whatever they had was OOS!

    • http://www.chloeash.com Lily

I don’t know if it’s the climate, since those living in cooler and drier countries also complain about it. The NARS SA in Bangkok told me that the ‘new’ packaging doesn’t melt, but I dunno. I’m waiting for another 2 years and see what happens to Madly since it’s the newest of the lot.

  • http://beautyreductionista.blogspot.ca/ Liz

I can see them getting melty in the heat but it’s mostly cold here so I don’t have those issues. I also tend to not carry my NARS products around either, which helps.

I love Orgasm as you know and have an eye on Exhibit A and Dolce Vita. :)

    • http://www.chloeash.com Lily

I don’t carry them around though :-( Yes, Dolce Vita and Exhibit A do look good! I would’ve bought them if not for the packaging…

  • http://eyeheartit.blogspot.com Larie

I can’t wear NARS blushes because of ingredients, but I could see that being a problem! And the fingerprints are a whole other issue, blegh.

    • http://www.chloeash.com Lily

Oh yes, fingerprints. When my Laguna melted terribly, you can actually see my fingerprints embedded IN the rubber. It was … eeky.

  • http://icarias.blogspot.ca Icaria

Ikwym about the “melt down” I had this happen to me with one of my Chanel l/s years ago so I was a little worried when I purchased NARS Tolède in the spring. It got through summer fine & today I got a palette so hopefully it’ll do fine. The NARS blush I want is Mata Hari but I must admit that I’ll probably get one of those mini Orgasm that Sephora carries. Since Liz mentioned it on her blog I’ve been attracted by it and now you! It’s almost a done deal! :)

    • http://www.chloeash.com Lily

You should try Orgasm if you like it! Fingers crossed the rubber doesn’t melt on you :-)

  • http://www.nailsandcupcakes.com Isabelle

I only own Douceur and I LOVE IT. I am definitely buying more NARS blushes, the quality is impeccable. Anything NARS I’ve tried is impeccable actually!

    • http://www.chloeash.com Lily

Good to know you love them! I do love their radiant creamy concealer too

  • http://www.glambunctious.com Kristen @ Glambunctious

So WEIRD about the melty packaging thing! I’ve heard others mention this before, but it’s never happened to me. I have a few NARS blushes and I really love them! I have to say my favorite is Deep Throat as well. Orgasm looks grody on me! I just got Douceur the other day and I have to say I like Tarte Exposed better. I also picked up Penny Lane (creme blush) during a 20% off F&F sale and it is my new beloved boo! Melts perfectly into the skin and is the prettiest natural pinky color. And it lasts on my oily skin! AND it’s named after a Beatles song that I love! Perfecto! <3

    • http://www.chloeash.com Lily

I was planning to get Penny Lane a couple of years back but I’m glad I held off. I mean, I’m glad I waited long enough to find out the packaging melts. I’m just all brakes when it comes to NARS now :-( Then again, when I’m feeling impulsive again, I might just cave. NARS does have some really pretty things!
