Review: Clinique All About Shadow Galaxy and Eye Primer

Clinique has done it again. I’m super impressed with the eye primer. Yes, I’m telling you now, if you have oily lids, this one really helps your eye shadow stay. Look, I’m not that kind of person who beats around the bush, and say, “Why don’t you read all my ramblings and before you fall asleep, I’ll then tell you if it’s good or not”. I think I’m known for my straight talking so let’s just keep at that and not be coy, eh? Who’s with me?

Clinique All About Shadow Primer for Eyes

The eye primer reminds me of a lip gloss and the texture is a little runny. Something new. Usually primers are thicker and maybe even of a gel texture, but this one is runny. There are a few shades, and I was sent the darker version. It doesn’t really bother me because I layer eye shadows on it anyway, and if worn alone, it adds a little depth on my lids which I quite like. I like to swipe that doe foot applicator on the back of my hand, use my ring finger to take some of the product then pat it on my lids. Please feel free to apply it directly using the applicator. There is no right or wrong way of applying this as long as you apply the primer on your lids and not your lips?

It doesn’t take long for this primer to dry on the lids. I apply eye shadows about 10 seconds after. The eye shadows apply more vibrant and I have no problems with blending either. Some primers I’ve tried are so sticky on my lids that I need to powder before applying my eye shadow, or it’ll turn out patchy and a bitch to blend. Have you experienced that? I compared this with my NARS eye primer and while the NARS one is translucent and siliconey, that’s about the only difference. Oh wait, Clinique eye primer is cheaper and more accessible. Eye shadows stay on my lids for 12 hours and still going. I was totally floored, so impressed! Remember my Black Honey FOTD? I was out the whole day and when I got home to finally remove my makeup, the eye makeup still looked fresh and didn’t crease one bit. There was some minor fading at the edges and that’s it.

Galaxy quad

Here’s a brief mention about the Clinique eye quad, which has the same texture as the Black Honey eye shadow that I reviewed earlier. Below is how Galaxy looks, 1 pass with my finger, on top of the Clinique eye primer. Isn’t it gorgeous? Look at that smooth buttery pigment! I will come up with a look using this quad, don’t you worry. I just need to get this review out of the way, so that I can concentrate on how to achieve the look next.

Have you tried any of Clinique’s eye makeup lately? The quad retails for RM120 and the primer costs RM68. Clinique Malaysia now has an online shop, in case you didn’t know. Very convenient, no? *wink wink nudge nudge*

Yay to the blues for your eyes! Do an FOTD soon, will ya? Clinique can be quite impressive at times, and it was the eye concealer that got me interested in the brand for the very first day.

    • Lily

Yup, I just got my internet back. I was like lost to the world for a few days, hence all the late replies to comments. I’ll try to get it done so that I can put it up on Sunday, but no promises :-P

Oooohh la la! This primer is nearly half price of NARS!! I first heard about it from Lynn @ Beauty Cabby. Definitely have to give this a go. :)

    • Lily

Yes, I remember Lynn likes it too! I couldn’t agree more with her. I was testing it at that time, and I was already loving it!

Ohhhh aaahhhh you know how much I love blues and that palette is CALLIN MY NAME. Love the middle shades in particular! Clinique was actually the first eye primer I’ve tried (their cream one in the little square pot) but I haven’t given these a look yet. Will definitely have to check them out, can’t beat that price tag!

    • Lily

Yes, Sarah <3s blues!! LOL. It's easier to try Clinique stuff because the price doesn't hurt that much :-P

  • TracyBeautyReflections

REALLY??? OK, I must get this!! Nothing lasts on my lids anymore.

    • Lily

I hope this does. What about the ArtDeco one that you liked? Has your skin changed?

Woots!!! Really ahhh? Need to get this and begone, oily lids! Btw, was it “Deep” that you got?

    • Lily

Hi Joy, the one I have is Moderately Fair but it’s quite dark on my lids. I don’t know what Deep will look like – much darker I bet (DUH!). Hahaha!

  • 38noodles

Woohoo! Another eye primer to try! Hope it’s better priced than Nars locally! Thanks for the heads up!

    • Lily

Oh, I’m not sure how much NARS is, but it’s not as accessible as Clinique, that’s for sure.

  • Bella

Interesting! I use the Nas primer and each time I re-order it I have to order something else to make my total more than 50 euros and get free shipping (great logic)…so I’ll be checking this out.
Clinique was my and my bestie’s go-to 90′s makeup brand, before Mac made it to South Africa in about 1994, but the only products from them I’ve used recently has been the High Impact Extra Volume and the Bottom Lash mascaras.

    • Lily

Definitely comparable to NARS. Since NARS is too far away from me, and it’s super expensive to order online, Clinique is the way to go :-) I have yet to try their Bottom Lash Mascara. Heard great things about it!

I’m glad to hear this works so well! For the moment I’m back on UDPP, but it seems like every brand has a primer now, so I’m totally willing to explore!

    • Lily

I thought UDPP was good, Sunny… until I tried NARS, then until I tried THIS!

  • Icaria

Oh I will definitely try this primer once my NARS is done, I especially like the fact that it’s tinted so it will even out the color of my lids. I’m so impressed with the eye shadows! I mean the color payoff is excellent! Only thing I don’t like is those pesky mirror compacts.

    • Lily

Oh, you should try this for sure. Very impressed!

I feel like Clinique has really stepped their game up lately! That primer sounds good – and interesting that it’s colored. I am back on NARS right now, though! But that quad…oooooh *__*

    • Lily

You’re right about that. Clinique definitely stepped up, and a huge thumbs up to them :-)

  • http://beautyreductionista.blogspot.ca/ Liz

Really glad that this works well! I’m thrilled for eye primers NOT in the $30 range. Been testing some drugstore stuff that completely failed the test, so I’ll pick this up at the next opportunity.

    • Lily

I know right? You have to try this. If it doesn’t work, at least it doesn’t hurt so bad. Hahaha!

I’ve always loved their eyeshadows. I should buy them more often (well, this sounds somewhat wrong, but still..)
I love how deep and multi-dimensional those blue colors look. I would love to have this quad in my wardrobe. :)

    • Lily

LOL Lena! And yes, these blues look really beautiful on :-)

  • http://papayapieces.com/ Sofia

Aha the primer sounds impressive, mine is running out so I’ll be keeping this one in mind :) I love those shades of blue but am still not brave enough to wear them myself…

    • Lily

I’d love to know if it works for you, Sofia! Do let me know if you decide to try it :-)
